About the University
Tianjin University of Sport(TUS), was founded in August 1958
when State Physical Culture and Sports Commission and Ministry of
Education decided to establish a sport university in Tianjin where
the capital city of Hebei Province at that time to meet the need of
physical education development and find a way out of the dilemma of
lacking PE teachers,competitive sports talents and sport management
personnel,mainly taking responsibility to fulfill the task of cultivating
PEteachers for Hebei Provence, Shanxi Province and Inner Mongolia
and other provinces in Northern China. TUS, experienced profound
transformation and development over the past 50 and more years,
will maintain the continuity to expand and upgrade its
school-running scale and level, work hard to keep improving and
promoting its school-running condition and quality, press ahead to
create a new look of campus, and strive to become one of top
ranking and the most influential modernized sport universities in
China and world as a whole.
Located in the Hexi district of Tianjin, the university covers an
area of 534 acres (356,018 square meters), with convenient traffic,
beautiful environment and adjacent to Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium.
Currently, TUS offers 15 undergraduate specialties covering
pedagogy, science, management, liberal art. Since 1979, it has
embarked on enrolling postgraduate candidates. In 1986, it was
granted to award master’s degrees. Now there have been 1
discipline, 6 sub-disciplines and 1 professional discipline authorized
to confer master’s degree. In 2010, it has also been authorized to
recommend elite fresh undergraduates for master’s degree without
examination.
In 2003, the university has been authorized to be “Institute of Joint
Cultivating Doctoral Postgraduate” by the Ministry of Education,
while in the same year, the joint recruit and cultivation of doctoral
postgraduates with Beijing Sport University commenced. In 2010, it
became “Approved and Constructing Institute of Newly-awarding
Doctoral Degree" by the Academic Degree Commission of the State
Council. In July 2011, it also passed the in-process inspection of that
program organized by the Degree Office of Tianjin Municipal
Government.
Tianjin University of Sport has a current total staff of 463, and
the University has the total enrollments of 6,000 students, including
5,000 undergraduate students, 520 master's candidates, and 13
joint-cultivation doctoral candidates.

Undergraduate Discipline and Specialties
Master Degree Programs
Visiting/Student Exchange Programs
TUS possesses advanced research facilities and rich teaching resources.
Foreign students including those from partner universities may apply to
take major-related courses or do research at TUS as visiting students.
The schooling system for the visiting students ranges from 1 semester
to 2 years. A non-degree certificate of advanced study will be awarded
if the visiting student successfully finishes his/her study at TUS.
Official transcripts are also available upon request.
For autumn-semester study, the students may submit application from
mid March to mid June. For spring-semester study, the application shall
be finished from mid October to mid December in the previous year.
Chinese Language Programs
The Chinese Language Program of TUS offers Chinese language courses of
eight levels covering beginners and advanced learners. The curriculum of
the program includes more than ten courses, such as Speaking, Listening
Comprehension, Comprehensive Chinese, Extensive Reading, Newspaper
Reading, Classical Chinese, Hot Topics, Writing, Pronunciation, Reading
Aloud, Comprehensive Chinese & discussion. The program delivers 20 class
hours per week, 18 weeks per semester. In addition, elective courses are
also available. For autumn-semester study, the students may submit
application from mid March to mid June. For spring-semester study, the
application shall be finished from mid October to mid December in the
previous year.
Admissions
Several ways you can get admissions from TUS. International students are
encouraged to apply when meet the entry requirements and submit their
application before deadline. Language students and Visiting Students
will be selected according to their educational background and Chinese
language level. Students applying for master's or doctorate program need
to pass two subject tests in addition to HSK(band 4) requirement.
Applicants who apply to TUS for the second time will be considered with
priority. The ways you can get admissions to TUS are shown below.
(1) EXCHANGE STUDENTS BETWEEN GOVERNMENTS
According to the agreements between Chinese government and other foreign
governments, TUS accepts Government Scholarship Student every year.
Students have to apply for scholarship from their government. Applications will be evaluated from January 1 to April 30 each year.
(2) EXCHANGE STUDENTS BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES
According to the agreements between TUS and other universities, the
University will accepts exchange students from the oversea sister schools.
(3) RECOMMENDED BY ORGANIZATIONS
Schools, universities and other international educational organizations
may recommend students to TUS directly or via other Chinese agencies.
(4) INDIVIDUAL APPLICATION
Students can directly submit application to the International Exchange
Office.

How to apply
Students may request the GUIDE and APPLICATION FORM from
International Exchange Office of TUS. All materials with application fee
have to be sent to International Exchange Office before deadline.

Entrance Exam for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies
1. Applicants applying for BA Degree must take a Chinese language
examination which tests listening, reading and writing capability.
For those who have already taken HSK test and passed level 6 or
higher, this exam can be exempt. (If applying for The College of Chinese
Language and Culture, applicants who have passed HSK level 3 can be
exempt from the examination, and those with HSK level 6 can directly enter into 3rd year undergraduate program.)
2. Applicants applying for BS Degree must take a Math test and a Chinese
language examination. Applicants with HSK level 6 or higher can be exempt
from Chinese language examination.
3. Applicants applying for graduate program must take a Chinese language
examination along with two specialized subject tests. Applicants who have
passed the HSK level 6 test can be exempt from the Chinese language
examination. Each subject of examination is graded on a one hundred
percentage scale. Full mark is 100 and 60 is the passing score. Students
who pass the examinations can be accepted according to Matriculation
Criteria of Tianjin University of Sport and Recruitment Plan.

Registration Duration
According to current China education system, one academic year divided
into two semesters. Fall Semester starts around early September and ends
in next January, while spring semester is from early February and runs
to July.
